This project develops a novel mini-organ cryopreservation platform for the eyelid, a complex vascularized tissue critical for eye protection and facial expression. By avoiding toxic and cell permeating cryoprotectants and liquid nitrogen facilities, this first-in-class biocompatible organ cryopreservation technology, based on nano ice formation and molecular assembly inventions, enables safe, freezer-based storage, advancing reconstructive transplantation for eyelid trauma while also supporting cosmetic surgical applications with improved graft integrity and outcomes.
