Collapse Overview
Collapse description
Cannabis edibles pose unique public health challenges as they are packaged as appealing food products and may be perceived as less harmful than smoking cannabis, despite the greater danger of severe intoxication. Because their psychoactive effects are delayed and longer lasting, it is difficult for users to titrate their dose which can result in the overconsumption of high amounts of tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) and acute adverse consequences. This project will address gaps in our understanding of how edibles package marketing contributes to harm perceptions and risk for overconsumption and how to effectively communicate knowledge about safe consumption through package warnings to guide state policymakers as they establish state regulatory guidelines for cannabis edibles to minimize harms and protect public health.
