I am a general pediatrician, educator, child health advocate and health services researcher with a passion for promoting health equity for all. Within the Department of Pediatrics, I am the Vice Chair of Social Impact. Within the medical school, I co-direct the Healthy Communities Certificate Program and direct the Advocacy Certificate Program and Medical Legal Partnership in conjunction with the Law School.
My research focuses on promoting health equity for all through community engagement by addressing the health-related social needs in clinical settings. As a child health advocate, I serve as a spokesperson for the American Academy of Pediatrics and co-author policy statements, such as Paid Family and Medical Leave. I serve on the Advocacy Committee for the Society for Pediatric Research and as a national advisor for the Health Policy Scholars Program with the Academic Pediatric Association. I previously served on the National Academies of Science, Engineering and Medicine’s Consensus Committee on Programs and Polices to Reduce Intergenerational Poverty. I am an Associate Editor for the journal, Pediatrics.
