I am a general pediatrician, educator, child health advocate and health services researcher with a passion for promoting health equity. Within the Department of Pediatrics, I am the Vice Chair of Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion. Within the medical school, I co-direct the Health Equity Certificate Program and direct the Health Justice Advocacy Certificate Program and Medical Legal Partnership in conjunction with the Law School.
My research focuses on promoting health equity through community engagement among under-resourced populations by addressing the health-related social needs, such as food insecurity, and improving diversity and inclusivity in medicine. As a child health advocate, I co-author policy statements for the American Academy of Pediatrics, such as Paid Family and Medical Leave, and serve as a liaison to its Committee for Federal Governmental Affairs. I serve on the Advocacy Committee for the Society for Pediatric Research and the Diversity and Inclusion Committee for the Academic Pediatric Association. I previously served on the National Academies of Science, Engineering and Medicine’s Consensus Committee on Programs and Polices to Reduce Intergenerational Poverty. I am an Associate Editor for Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Justice for the journal, Pediatrics.
