overview I am a general pediatrician, educator, child health advocate and health services researcher with a passion for promoting health equity. Within the Department of Pediatrics, I am the Vice Chair of Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion. Within the medical school, I co-direct the Health Equity Certificate Program and direct the Health Justice Advocacy Certificate Program and Medical Legal Partnership in conjunction with the Law School. I am also an Associate Dean for Justice and Belonging for the Winston-Salem Campus. My research focuses on promoting health equity through community engagement among under-resourced populations by addressing the health-related social needs, such as food insecurity, and improving diversity and inclusivity in medicine. As a child health advocate, I co-author policy statements for the American Academy of Pediatrics and serve as a liaison to its Committee for Federal Governmental Affairs. I serve on the Advocacy Committee for the Society for Pediatric Research and the Diversity and Inclusion Committee for the Academic Pediatric Association. I previously served on the National Academies of Science, Engineering and Medicine’s Consensus Committee on Programs and Polices to Reduce Intergenerational Poverty. I am an Associate Editor for Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Justice for the journal, Pediatrics.
