I am an assistant professor in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at Wake Forest University School of Medicine.

I am a board certified sports medicine physician with a background in physical medicine and rehabilitation. I approach sports medicine with a biomechanics interest and try to understand the complete story of an athlete’s injury. Is there a strength or flexibility deficit? Is there something about the way the athlete moves, throws, runs, etc., that is placing him or her at risk? Using this technique, my goal is to treat not only the current injury but also prevent them in the future.

In addition to working with athletes, I have a special interest in performing arts medicine and have spent years working with dancers, musicians, actors and vocalists. They place high demands on their bodies and deserve to have a physician who speaks their language and can assist them when injuries occur. This is one of the reasons I started and serve as medical director for the Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist Performing Arts Medicine Program and advocate for this group of athletes as the chair of the Medical Committee for the International Association of Dance Medicine and Science.

I am the co-investigator for the U54 Concussion Study. Other areas of research include resilience and molecular effects of exercise.

I received my bachelor’s degree at Princeton University and my medical degree at Tulane University. I completed residency in physical medicine and rehabilitation at Harvard University and a fellowship in pediatric and adolescent sports medicine at Boston Children’s Hospital.
