overview My lab studies how drugs, primarily nicotine, affect mood, behavior, and neural function. I use behavioral tasks, smart phone apps, and functional magnetic resonance imaging to study these interactions. In particular, I am investigating how individual differences in daily stress levels and distress tolerance can help or hurt a smoking quit attempt. Other projects include the acute and chronic effects of drugs on reward-based decision making. I am interested in understanding how drugs that affect dopamine signaling influence effort-based decisions, and how this may relate to psychiatric symptoms.
